The Grange Country House

10/10 Excellent

"The setting overlooking the mountains was beautiful and quiet. The B&B itself is wonderful, well kept up and very clean and comfortable. The owners were very nice, helpful and accommodating. Plenty of parking. Breakfast served promptly and was delicious. Getting into Keswick is walkable but uphill on the return (we chose to drive into town). Overall, a wonderful place to stay!"

Ambleside Salutation Hotel & Spa

"Very old fashioned room desperately in need of a refurbishment and a deep clean. Would suit a couple in their 80’s as that was the decor. Breakfast was nice, but when my wife ordered poached eggs on toast she got 1 egg on 1/2 piece of toast, was pretty funny as it looked sad on the plate. Staff were lovely"

Cragwood Country House Hotel

"Where do I start ! a quintessential English country hotel. The grounds were immaculately kept and I have paid good money to visit gardens not as spectacular as these. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough for you a special shout out for Brad and for Helen in the assistance they gave us. The food in the restaurant was exceptional and although we didn’t have bar food, what we saw coming out looked extremely good. The only comment I would make is that if you were staying for a number of days the menu doesn’t change that often and is small. I can especially recommend their cooked breakfasts. There was nothing we could fault with the hotel. It’s position, it’s condition and it staff were all excellent."

Keswick Country House Hotel

4/10 Poor

"This hotel is in an excellent location in Keswick and the staff were very helpful. The bar area was large and relaxing. However, the room, apart from the carpets, was tired and needed refurbishment. There was a black mould around the wooden windows. The shower unit was yellow with age. Even the toilet paper was thin and cheap. The breakfast was adequate, but the orange juice in particular, was like coloured water. Given the much higher price compared to local b&bs, we were disappointed with the overall experience."

The Daffodil Hotel

"Hotel was fine, but not exceptional. However, there were not enough staff to run the bars in the day/evening. Evening menus were fairly limited and the same each day. We felt that the hotel was extremely overpriced based on the quality of service provided. We stayed for 5 nights and each morning at breakfast we were asked if it was our first visit to the restaurant - an indication of how valued we felt as customers!"

Armathwaite Hall Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Our second visit to Armathwaite and just as enjoyable as our first. From the moment we were welcomed in reception we felt right at home, and I immediately felt my stress levels drop! The team are excellent, always on hand to help and they enjoy a bit of banter too, there’s a real sense of fun and friendliness. Our waiter in particular was superb, he looked after us both nights as we tried the new Indian restaurant “Zaika”as well as in the Fine Dining Restaurant. Other meals were outstanding. (We didn’t catch his name, he’s been working at Bassenthwaite for 4 years, he told us he is originally from India, and very attentive!). Housekeeping were so efficient that our bedroom was freshened up whilst we had breakfast (overlooking spectacular gardens down to Bassenthwaite lake). Even the hotel cat was friendly! The environment and gardens are incredible, we were blessed with clear blue skies over the May Bank Holiday. Finally, the EV charging experience was very straightforward, and very reasonable. Our favourite Lakeland hotel, thank you to the team for such an enjoyable and relaxing stay."

Borrowdale Gates Hotel

8/10 Good

"Pretty remote so if you’re out driving, make sure you become familiar with the (fairly convenient) bus schedule, although it’s a half mile from the bus stop, or be prepared to pay a healthy taxi/Uber fare from Keswick. The grounds are lovely and rooms/common areas well-maintained. Breakfast doesn’t start until 0745, very inconvenient for an early start. Staff could be a little more helpful in pointing out bus schedule, local attractions, arranging cabs, etc. a nice experience overall."
