Dorrigo National Park

Dorrigo National Park which includes forest scenes
Be awed by the towering forests of ancient World-Heritage wilderness when you wander along hiking trails to pristine waterfalls and bird-watching hotspots.

Exploring the trails and lookouts of Dorrigo National Park, you’ll feel as though you’ve stumbled across a land where dinosaurs roam the ancient forests. The park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area and its breathtaking landscapes appear frozen in prehistoric time. Peer into another world when you encounter diverse ecosystems, wild waterways and spectacular wildlife a short distance from Coffs Harbour.

Go for a relaxing stroll along the Lyrebird Link trail and pass through a mosaic of sub-tropical rainforest and pretty woodlands. One of the park’s highlights is the staggeringly beautiful view at the end of the Skywalk, which is a boardwalk that extends over the leafy canopy of the forest. Enjoy views of the surrounding national park and Bellinger Valley stretching out to the coast.

Wind your way around 600-year-old trees when you embark on the Wonga Walk. See pristine mountain water cascading down misty waterfalls from the Waterfall Way, which showcases Sherrard and Newell falls. Discover what lies behind the falls by walking along the Crystal Shower Falls trail. Longer trails include the Casuarina Falls circuit, which presents fantastic views of Rosewood River Valley and Dorrigo Mountain.

With more than 128 species of bird, the national park presents great wildlife-spotting opportunities. You might see the curious satin bowerbird or catch a glimpse of the elusive lyrebird. The bright plumage of the wompoo fruit-dove and the black-and-yellow regent bowerbird are sure to impress patient bird watchers.

Be sure to visit the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre to plan your visit and learn about the flora and fauna you can expect to see. Book tours and pick up souvenirs at this informative hub. Relax with a coffee and a treat amid the foliage at the Canopy Café or bring a picnic to enjoy on the shaded trails.

Dorrigo National Park is situated in New South Wales’ North Coast region. It is a 1-hour drive from Coffs Harbour and 90 minutes from Armidale. The park and visitor center are open daily, except for Christmas Day. Visit in spring and summer for pleasant weather and the best wildlife-spotting conditions.
