"The best hotel I stayed in while in Georgia – not sure whether it would count as top of mid-range or something like a four-star, but it was comfortable and well run. Staff speak English and there’s a basement spa/wellness centre to underline the upmarket credentials. Rooms and bathrooms are a little bland but everything works, including the fridge and mini-bar, and although views are a bit lacking, that’s no problem because you have access to the eastern third of Rabati castle to explore at any time. The hotel restaurant is excellent and serves the full range of Georgian favourites, including quite a few vegetarian options, at prices that are only slightly higher than average; breakfast is good too, although it doesn’t start until 9 am. You probably won’t stay more than a couple of nights because that’s all it takes to explore Akheltsikhe and other bits of southwest Georgia, but they will be well worth it."
