I regularly use Expedia and booked this hotel for my sister, who was traveling alone with her service dog from Colorado to Texas. She has a spinal cord injury and has been in a wheelchair since 2014, so I chose this place because it had good reviews, a fair price, and was listed as pet-friendly.
When she arrived, the front desk clerk immediately questioned her about her “emotional support dog.” She explained he was a service dog, and even showed what papers she had with her, but because he wasn’t wearing his vest, the clerk began arguing with her about the law. She had just driven six hours, was exhausted, and simply wanted her room, but he continued lecturing her about service-animal rules she already understood.
When she tried to end the argument by saying he could charge her if needed, he stepped out from behind the counter and stood over her—towering above a woman in a wheelchair—while continuing to argue. It was intimidating, unnecessary, and completely unprofessional.
He finally gave her a handicap room, which was clean but not ADA compliant. The way she was treated was shocking and disappointing. My sister wasn’t trying to “get away” with anything; she lives with her disability every day and relies on her trained service dog.
This hotel needs proper training in ADA laws, service-animal policies, and basic customer service. No disabled guest should ever be spoken to or confronted the way she was.
