Haw Ings in Wharfedale The flat flood plain downstream from Hubberholme, taken from Buckden Rake. This photo was taken 11 years before that of Tim Cook 57075, from virtually the same spot, and it is interesting to note how some of the streamside and hedgerow trees have grown over that period. Otherwise, there is little change in the landscape.

Great accommodation in the Smithy! Fabulous pub with wassailers when we stayed, but the food after a busy Christmas and New Year was a little lacking. Was good and there was everything that the menu stated but in minute quantities. Staff great and friendly. Would return.

Very clean and tidy and welcoming. All utensils and amenities needed. Only downfall was parking which we were warned about. Had to park a good walk away and had to carry our belongings and kids and. Dogin the rain.

Pen-y-Ghent makes up one the Yorkshire 3 peaks which, if you accept the challenge have to complete all 3 peaks and 24 miles within 12 hours. Most people start with this one (the smallest of the 3 ) from the nearby village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. I’ve completed the challenge many years ago in my youth and this time we just tackled this one on a circular 6 mile walk. We took the 3 peaks ascent route which is steep in places and involves a scramble up some rocks near the end but the views

This is beautiful Bolton Abbey in Wharfedale at the foot of the Yorkshire Dales. The now ruined abbey was founded in 1154 but dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539. Dare to cross the sixty stepping stones to cross the river but beware of the Strid with its dangerous eddies of water.
