"For Your Consideration: Hotel Boyeros, Liberia, Costa Rica… The silence of dawn is interrupted by the cooing of White Doves as the sun rises in the East and warms the morning air. At 5:00 am taxis pull up in unison and kitchen and hotel staff disembark in preparation for the day ahead. Jose, the night security guard, greats me with a nod and a smile. The principle meal is desayuno and is centered around huevos; and whether served scrambled, fried or as an omelet with jamon and queso, the main ingredient is always love. The hotel provides an oasis from the denizens of urban life, conveniently located next to many American Fast Food joints and a major shopping center. The Peri Liberia Supermercado offers international travelers and the homesick reminders of home while doubling as a convenient pickup point for local tourism. White Claw and Energy Drinks are plentiful and are available for purchase to be consumed with glee from your hotel room’s balcony. The hotel hosts tourists of all ilk. Families with children take advantage of the multitude of swimming pools and waterslides, while the travel wary safely retreat to the creature comforts of a comfortable bed and enjoy the chilling embrace of air conditioning. At night it can be a bit raucous, as the youth of bygone days casually stroll in and recount stories of their evenings’ exploits. Our passion unites us and after an exchange of pleasantries, we all come together as one. This place for me is travel as it should be."

"The property was absolutely stunning! Beautifully built with an eye to the comfort of guests and respectful of the natural beauty upon which it was built. The owners and hosts, Roger and Rosie, are amongst the kindest and most hospitable people I have met on our travels. We only had two nights here but this place calls for a longer stay where you can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the place. Next time! "

"This hotel was amazing. When we arrived they greeted us with a welcome cocktail which we enjoyed in the open air restaurant/bar overlooking Lake Arenal. the room was clean and very pretty. The rooms are individual casitas with small patios in front overlooking the lake. We had a small fridge and a coffee maker in the room, very handy for enjoying morning coffee on our patio with beautiful views. There are 2 pools, one heated, also overlooking the lake. the entire property is meticulously maintained with lawns and lush flowers and vegetation. And the best part is the extremely friendly and helpful staff. "

Set within a private preserve of forests, canyons, and geothermal wonders, every view feels like a postcard. The thermal river is unforgettable — relaxing, healing, and unlike anything you’ll experience elsewhere. We loved the beautiful hiking trails, restorative yoga sessions, and exhilarating zip-lining. The food was exceptional across all restaurants, with fresh ingredients, great flavours, and flawless service. Every meal felt special. A true highlight was meeting Gabriel and his father — two of the most gracious, passionate people you’ll ever meet. Their love for the land, the community, and the guest experience shines through in every detail of the resort. Río Perdido is magical in every category: service, nature, activities, food, and atmosphere. We can’t recommend it highly enough and will absolutely be returning."

"Very nice clean rooms comfortable beds lots to do and the staff was top notch! Very polite and helpful especially with our older mother who was with us. Food choices were broad enough that everyone found something they liked restaurant and bar on the grounds and the adventure tours were super fun! Our adult kids had a great time!"

"Staff were so lovely and welcoming. The activities at the resort were good, we booked a package from their website as we only wanted to do some of the activities and the package they offer at the resort is all of them for $120. They allowed us to split up our activities over two days so we did most of them one day and the hanging bridges before we checked out the next. There aren’t many options for food around the resort and I feel more than 2 nights unless you are driving to do an activity elsewhere would have been too much. But for 2 nights it was perfect. Great way to start our Costa Rican vacation. "
