"Our stay at the Oakes Hotel Overlooking the Falls was a mixed experience. The location is excellent, with many attractions within easy walking distance.
The hotel is a bit dated, but our room was clean. We were disappointed with our 5th-floor “river view” room, however. Because the trees were full of leaves, we couldn’t see the river at all. It seems the room only offers a true river view during the winter months, which felt somewhat misleading.
The pool area also needed attention. There was hair throughout the pool floor, and the area generally needed a good cleaning. The tiles surrounding the pool were extremely slippery. All of the pool towels were gone when we arrived, but the staff quickly brought out more.
Check-in was a little slow, although the staff seemed to be working as efficiently as possible. We arrived 45 minutes early, so we expected our room not to be ready. They did allow us to park in the hotel lot while we waited, and they also let us keep our car there until 1 p.m. on checkout day. This was very convenient and saved us from paying for parking elsewhere.
The biggest disappointment was the 14th-floor “observation deck.” It is essentially another hotel floor with a few larger windows and some seating, rather than an actual observation deck.
Overall, the location and parking convenience were great, and the staff were helpful. However, the misleading river view, disappointing observation deck, and pool cleanliness issues took away from the experience."
