Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument

This sculpture in Kelly Ingram Park in Birmingham, Alabama depicts a vicious dog attack during the civil rights protests in 1963. This sculpture is very effective. I got chills walking through and imagining what it just have been like. #civilrights #historymatters

A statue of Martin Luther King Jr. looks towards the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The 1963 bombing of the church by the KKK murdered 6 children in total and sparked outrage across the world. This marked a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. #civilrights #historymatters
Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. I am not a museum person, but this is worth a visit. It’s a very moving and well done exhibit.
I feel like I had heard of this church, but didnt really understand the significance of what happened there until I visited. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute right next door is a really well done history of racism and civil rights in the US. I'd definitely recommend if you are in Birmingham for a while.
