It was a steep walk up to the town from the river, but definitely worth it. It's a bigger town than it looks from this angle and feels more real and alive than the pretty villages we'd been driving through in the area.
The French really do value their heritage, which can be seen at every corner -- whether it's a shop, a house, the fact that they put their powerlines underground - or the number of these fabulous little classic Citroens you see around. The model is 2CV, but you have to say it in the French way (which sounds something like 'der zher ver').

This hotel has been refurbished so had plenty of USB charger points. WiFi worked good enough. We usually take our own air freshener with us now. Eco friendly hotels often have smelly drains. Our bathroom was in need.
