This was a first time visit for me. I liked the pier quite a bit because it has a much more laid back vibe. Not nearly as as busyother beaches in the area.

If you’re California Dreamin’, your dreams are likely to involve these warm, sunny spots along the Pacific Ocean coast near Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County’s western border seems like one long stretch of sand and picturesque rocks along the ocean, but it’s actually composed of Beach Cities with distinct cultures and appeal. Come for sun, sand and waves and enjoy each town’s unique attractions.

Starting about 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of LA, MalibuOpens in a new window has 21 miles (34 kilometers) of beaches, with surfers, celebrities and surfing celebrities, such as Rob Lowe. Mingle with locals at beach shacks or trendy restaurants. Leo Carrillo State Park, Surfrider and El Matador are among Malibu’s favorite beaches. Malibu sunsets at Point Dume State Park are so inspiring that a cocktail has been named after them. Heading southeast, stop at Pepperdine University to enjoy stellar cliff-top views of the ocean. Imagine you’re in ancient Greece or Rome when you see Getty Villa’s art, architecture and gardens.

Moving south, Santa MonicaOpens in a new window’s smaller beach has lifeguard stations, a paved walkway and access to restaurants.
