This is an older hotel, and it shows in the inability to control the room heat (we asked twice to lower it, yet nothing changed), the dated bathtub requiring a step stool to get in and out and no adhesive on its floor so you could easily slip, water in the shower suddenly going super hot and then super cold, and the plug receptacles that are literally found in the Museum of Plugs and Sockets and are considered to now be illegal. The staff (except one: Priska or something similar) is always looking at the computer and you have to say something to get them to acknowledge your presence; they also don't greet you when you come in, or do the kindness of removing your empty cup if you're working in the eating area. The room itself was tired but entirely functional, and there is a great selection of streamed TV channels. We were in the second building and had to drag our luggage up and down small sets of stairs, as others have mentioned, but otherwise it is charming. Fantastic to have hot beverages available most of the day and orange-infused water at the reception. Unlike our next hotel in Zurich, no surprise goodies were given to guests during our Christmas week stay, which is in keeping with what feels like an intentionally reserved culture at the hotel. Location was good but there are closer hotels to the city centre if walking is an issue, especially stairs or sloping streets. Breakfast was fine but lacked the niceties of such things as smoked salmon found elsewhere.
