Baga Beach

Baga Beach featuring a sunset, sailing and general coastal views
Expect a youthful, energetic vibe at this this popular beach destination where the nightlife scene lasts from sundown until dawn.

One of Goa’s most well-known seaside resorts, Baga Beach is famous for its beachside bars and nightclubs, where revelers party throughout the night. During the day, the wide, expansive stretch of sand is energetic and exuberant, with numerous options for water-based activities. Sunbathe and soak up the lively atmosphere, take part in exhilarating watersports activities and stick around post sunset for a taster of Baga’s nightlife.

In the 1960s and ’70s, foreign visitors stumbled upon what was at the time a quiet fishing village, and Baga soon became a popular hippie hangout. Stop by Baga today and you’ll soon see that while it’s still as popular as ever, the hippies have been replaced by foreign holidaymakers who are eager for some fun in the sun.

Arrive at the beach early to secure a sun lounge in a prime location or simply lie out on the powdery sand. Treat yourself to an affordable massage or pick up cooling drinks from one of the beachside shacks. If you want a snack or a refreshment, catch the attention of one of the hawkers walking up and down the beach. For a quieter experience, try heading to the north end of the beach near the Baga Creek, where crowds thin and you can observe local fisherman reeling in their catch.

The beach is also a popular spot for watersports and there are plenty of exciting activities to choose from. Fly through the summer sky on a parasail, cling on to a banana boat as it bounces through the waves or embark on a dolphin-spotting cruise.

When you’re hungry, take your pick from the wide array of beach shacks and restaurants. Be sure to try a coconut seafood curry, a much-loved regional specialty. Stick around until nightfall to experience the feted nightlife scene. Attend dance parties and Bollywood-themed nights in the nearby clubs and discos.

Baga Beach is located near the mouth of the River Baga in North Goa, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Panaji. To its south and north are the equally popular Calangute and Anjuna beaches. High season peaks between mid-December and mid-January, so plan your visit outside this time to avoid the crowds.
