I booked a Deluxe Room for one night at the Atheneum. What I received was, without question, the worst hotel room I’ve ever stayed in.
The room looked nothing like the photos on the hotel’s website for a Deluxe room. When I called the concierge to report the issue, I was told it was “in the same category” as the Deluxe room. I explained that I would never have booked this room, and was told that not all Deluxe room types are pictured online, an unbelievably poor excuse.
To make matters worse, I was informed that the hotel was fully booked and this was the only room available. In other words, they knowingly passed off an inferior room as a Deluxe and hoped I wouldn’t notice or complain.
This is not just disappointing, it’s deceptive. If you charge guests for a higher-tier room, you must provide what’s advertised. What I got was nowhere close to a Deluxe experience. If this is what they consider Deluxe, this hotel is a 1-star property, not 5.
I’ve attached photos of the room I received. They speak for themselves.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
