Top Ailsa Craig Hotel Reviews
North West Castle Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Excellent location for those exploring the southern and western parts of Dumfries and Galloway. Very nice large hotel near the water. Nice room and bathroom. Excellent restaurant with many choices for dinner and breakfast. Easy to walk around town from the hotel. Large car park (free). Staff members were friendly and helpful."
The Crosswater
10/10 Excellent
"This is a room above a pub. It is the cleanest room I have ever stayed in. It is small but functional with a comfortable bed. The staff are excellent and extremely accommodating. Breakfast is free and so is the clean fresh air. Food is excellent and the place is pet friendly. Its about 35 mins to the ferry but worth the journey."
Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel
8/10 Good
"Nice location set on a rugged isolated spot of the Scottish coastline. Nice views, friendly & helpful staff with an exceptionally fine dining experience in the evening. Breakfast was good value too."
Dunvegan House Guest House
8/10 Good
"Really nice property in a truly special place. Rooms small but well kept, breakfast was great. Do be aware they cannot process credit cards, and didn't find out til next morning. Fortunately a friend could deal with it. Not so much upset with property but with Expedia for no advanced warning. Would definitely go back but would be prepared."
Woodland Bay Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"I would recommend this self catering facility to anyone visiting the area. Very nice hotel room with mini kitchen. Fridge, microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, iron. Some food supplies and snacks. Breakfast cereals. Also a TV and WI-FI connection. Great sea view from room. I was only there for one night business trip but would quite happily have stayed with my wife as a tourist. Good nights sleep in comfortable bed, quiet and peaceful Plenty of parking spaces. Definitely 10 out of 10. Will stay again when I'm next in the area."
Fairfield House - Ayr
8/10 Good
"The hotel decor is tired and there was a lack of info in our room ie how to use tv stations. The pool area lacked signs to know where to get towels, what was the procedure for using the pool, sauna etc., we had to ask. Staff were very helpful and pleasant It would have been useful to have local info provided in our room. Having said all this, we would go back. The food was excellent and catered for my gluten free needs."
Ardshiel Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"A lovely place to stay, busy, welcoming, nothing too much trouble for staff who are very attentive and helpful, always a smile and welcome. Breakfast good other meals very good and well priced."
Glenapp Castle
10/10 Excellent
"This castle is fabulous! For Americans it is like stepping into a Downton Abby set. The staff greet you at the door, take your luggage and from that moment forward treat you like royalty. Not only is this a gated property, but you need your sir name in order for the gate to open! Then the drive up the narrow road just enhances your excitement to see the castle. John was great at showing us around and to our room. He was very helpful in understanding where everything was and how to get around. The option to use boots and coats owned by Glenapp to tour the grounds was an added bonus so you didn’t get your own shoes dirty. The room was spacious, clean and very welcoming. To have the option of taking a full tub was amazing. Surprising was the turn down service given without request - we had already retired but would have loved to have this done for us. In the morning we requested some hot tea to enjoy while in the sitting area of our room. We were given a drink credit by using Expedia, but I am wondering if the dinner and breakfast were already included in the pricing. That was not clear, but we did enjoy a very wonderful breakfast while listening to classical pop music - very Bridgerton. Even without the TV references, this is a quintessential castle experience and I highly recommend staying at Glenapp Castle."
The Royal Hotel Campbeltown
10/10 Excellent
"The property was clean,, quaint, and charming. The restaurant was delicious! I had dinner and breakfast the next morning. It was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had or should I say that I’ve had in Scotland so far. The staff was amazing! Carolyn went above, beyond and out of her way to make sure I was well taken care of, and I greatly appreciate it. The Royal Hotel is lucky to have her."
