Nice hotel. Very pleasant receptionists and very helpful. Comfy bed and sound sleep apart from the fire alarm going off at 12.45am! Despite that we will return!

Very dated carpets stained pint pealing off the walls I’m the hallways. Reception staff weren’t very professional sitting in hoodies lying back in their chairs

Lovely hotel, disappointing spa area.
Had a night away with a friend. Staff was lovely and the hotel was to a good standard. My only disappointment was having to pay £15 each for access to sauna, steam room and sauna. Nowhere in the description does it say it’s payable to access this area as a hotel guest. The standard of the Spa area was extremely poor. The hot tub was only 3/4 full and water was tepid, steam room was cold. Only 5 loungers and not big enough for all guests that was there. The sauna was nice and that was it. Evebing meal was nice, lovely 3 course meal that was cooked very well.

Beautiful surroundings and the added benefit of an outdoor natural swimming pool. Very comfy room great heating friendly staff. Breakfast was nice but I wish they did cooked breakfast too excellent all round

A rather poor, run down hotel that was probably really nice at some point in time, rather a shame to see it like this. The staff were friendly but the biggest disappointment was the breakfast, it’s just a continental and not a very good one at that. I left a £400 coat and a £300 Gillet in the cupboard and called them when I got home, they confirmed they had found the coat but no sign of the gillet. They offered to post it for £10 which we sent but received nothing. Chased them a few times and have now been told that they posted it without any tracking so it must have gone missing in the post. Hmmmm, doesn’t sound very likely to me. Nobody would post an item like that without tracking and also its weird that they only owned up to finding one of the items. Will not be staying again but if you do, please keep an eye out for some well-dressed members of staff. An expensive evenings stay!

The staff was very welcoming , helpful and polite , the overall hotel had a lovely warm feeling . Would recommend was a short walk to the amenities the children had a great time at the arcades , the bus into Matlock town centre stopped at the bottom of the drive on the main road so was perfect . Thankyou will hopefully be staying again in the summer .

Every member of staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meals were very nice and was presented well. I do have to however mention the central heating !! Our room ( we stayed in the annex) was freezing, we spoke to reception staff and was told it’s all on a timer, 6am to 10am then again 6pm to 10pm. We were told that we had an electric heater in the wardrobe which we used to get the room warm. Staff also had to put electric heaters in the dining room as it was cold. The staff said that heating should be on 24/7 as the current cold spell made it worse. Heard quite a few guests complain about the heating. Because of the heating issue our stay wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped. I think guests should be aware of this heating issue before booking.

The room was laid out really nice however furniture was tired with obvious signs of wear like cracks in bathroom tiles and stains in the carpet. As well as this the room was very cold and there was no heating facilities The pool was advertised as being available to guests which sounded great but upon arrival the pool was closed and with the early check out there was no time to consider the pool the following day. Breakfast was overly priced (£17) on the app and £10 within the hotel. The breakfast was naff and wasn’t refreshed to keep up with the demand, I had a glass of orange juice and to my surprise their were black bits floating in it. The room was overpriced (£197) and upon the day of arrival I re-checked the price and it was coming up as £130 which I believe is extremely unreasonable considering the room was booked a week before the stay. Staff were pleasant Hotel just needs a good once over and a bit of TLC. Price would of been justified if all services that were advertised were available as the pool was closed and sauna was not easily accessible, nor was the breakfast justifiable for the price due to poor selection.

The property is situated in beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The building is wonderful and the food is excellent. The hotel employs a chef called Skye and she is skilful and highly competent.

A lovely hotel but a bit tired
A lovely building and a great location. The hotel seemed a little tired though and the room could have been cleaner. The carpet needed a proper clean. But overall a pleasant stay.

Main reason for booking this hotel was outdoor pool, which was closed for cleaning for the duration of our stay. It would have been nice to have been advised as this apparently happens once a month.

The hotel is in a lovely setting, with beautiful views, so you feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. All members of staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable, the balcony was an unexpected treat, but everything is just a little bit tired, with signs of wear and tear - not enough to spoil our visit. The pool is really lovely, the website made me think very strict times/book in advance etc, but in reality everyone was relaxed, perhaps it was because it wasn't too busy. Breakfast was continental with plenty of delicious options. Overall a lovely 1 night break away.

Absolutely wonderful
The staff were absolutely lovely. The food was amazing! We will definitely return. The rooms are clean and warm, they are modern and welcoming. I highly recommend this hotel. We met a wonderful gentleman who told us all of the history and the major celebrities that have stayed in there hayday. Such a fantastic historical place that is clearly loved and cared for.

Had emailed the hotel a few times to see if we could get an earlier check in as we were attending a wedding nearby. Was told that we could get an early check yet when my partner arrived he was very rudely told he could not check in early yet other people coming after him were checked in early with no issues. The room was clean but not worth the price we paid for it to be honest.

Twin room and bathroom were fine apart from no bedside lights which was certainly unusual! Breakfast was not worth £10 - only 1 cranberry juice when we arrived, and 1 croissant, no large plates and we eventually had to ask a waiter for some tea. They were eventually topped up. The second day we went out for breakfast and paid £10 for a cooked breakfast and hot chocolate.
