Don’t stay here … at least not until they get it fixed up. The place is in major need of a remodel. No wifi no cable tv. Our toilet was so close to the sink you had to sit sideways. The shower hot water didn’t work in the AM. Worst was that the power went out at 12:30a and was out all night … as there was no one at the front desk to notify about the problem.

Hi, Thank you for your review and im sorry to hear your stay didnt go as planned.Having taken over late last year we are in the process of a revamp of the hotel across all areas.Unfortunatey due to a power outage which was beyond our control it meant that the hot water system was not operational, hence no hot water.Since your stay room information packs have been created with contact numbers should the front desk be closed.We do hope you will visit again in the future.Kind regards

When I arrived, I was greeted by two dogs, best welcoming committee ever. Abby was very helpful at the front desk, and she walked me and showed me to my room. A service from the past. I walk to a beautiful view of the harbor.

We only took over the hotel at the end of October at 3 days notice, and it was in a dire state after the previous owners. We have changed lots, done lots, and made improvements to many things, just a tough time of year to be taking on a seasonl business!!

The outside of the property needed a good tidy up of the hedges and patio areas, ther were stea cats catching a leaving dead tats in the patio area, our room had no heating or hot water so we had to move to another room. The decor inside was dated and requires a good facelift, the staff, whilst helpful were untidy and you could not identify them. On staff member ha NO knowledge of Gluten Free dietary requirements, and she was cooking my breakfast, the food overall was of a good standard and I would eat my evening meals there again. The second room we had was well maintained and had a good view of the harbour and breakwater, there are good parking facilities (free) and the management are trying their best under very trying circumstances, so although this seems like a poor review, it is not as bad as some places. So please stay and enjoy the area, the hotel can only get better if people use it and support it.

Look ill keep it fairly honest and short. When we walked into our room, it reeked of dampness, all locks or window stays were damaged or rusted out so you couldn't control ventilation/ open a bathroom window to get rid of the strong smell of bleach.I pulled back the fitted sheet to see the state of the mattress, and let's just say that's the reason I slept fully clothed and on top of all the bedding. This place is good for budget travelers or those who need to lay their head before catching the ferry the next morning, its not somewhere id stay for a holiday. We stayed here in September 23

It was an underwhelming experience. Very expensive for the product. Service was horrendous. Wait time for bistro- over an hour and a half, so we arrived early for breakfast. It’s like they have no idea how to run the business. A shame, it’s in an awesome spot.

Lovely location, but needs some TLC
Lovely hotel with welcoming staff and great location. Hotel needs some TLC as it is tired in places. Lots of DIY on or rooms needed doing and water pressure was low. Terrible smell from the communal toilets next to the bar. A nice stay overnight, but expensive. (No breakfast included either.)

This hotel was filthy and cluttered. I don’t ever leave bad reviews and have travelled to about 70 countries. The Wi-Fi doesn’t work, the TV is tiny and turns off frequently, the tea kettle was melted and dirty and the tea bags were open. The grounds are even dirty and cluttered. Absolutely disgusting. The owners and staff obviously have no pride in what they do.

Dissapointed in over priced stay.
Room ok. Seaview but misted double glazing that need a clean on the outside too. Hotel bit run down and reception area looks like a student let. Staff friendly. £97 pretty extortionate considering standard of the hotel and that does not include breakfast. You live and learn.

Shabby hotel in need of major refurbishment
This hotel is shabby and in need of major refurbishment. My wife and booked it for two nights, one for the night before travelling to Eire and one for the night of the day of our return. As as soon as we arrived it was obvious it was nothing like the website. The whole place looked tired and run down. Our experience on the second night was much worse. We were told to go outside and follow the path around to Room 20. There were, however, no numbers on the doors. . I therefore went back to reception and was told it was the last room at the end of the path. No one offered to take us there. To get to this path you have to walk over a paved courtyard with lots of loose uneven paving stones which were infested with weeds. The path by Room 20 was littered with crisp packets and the like and clearly had not been recently swept. I was woken up at midnight by the constant and noisy flushing of a lavatory next to our room. The mattress was 'clapped out' and should have been replaced. After that sleep was basically impossible, so we got up at 4.30am and left. My wife was woken by the noise from next door around 1:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. All in all a dreadful experience I cannot remember all the hotels I have stayed in in the last 70 years, but if I live another 70, I know i will remember this one. One plus point, bed linen and towels very clean.

We have addressed many failings of the hotel since taking over, including guest and staff safety in repsect of a new fire alarm system, essentail electrical maintenance and a new heating boiler. We have also replaced windows in many rooms, bought new beds, pillows, mattresses and duvets, fixed the roof, had various plumbing works carried out, improved the garden, and reducing carbon footprints. Motion detection lights have been fixed. Couple of dicky door handles still, but we're working our way through!Decor is next, though we can't paint the outside until the weather improves :( and the cost of the above improvements are obviously high, so we won't be able to fix everything straight away - more is the pity!!! However, we have an enormous task ahead of us, but fingers crossed you'll give us another go in the future.Thanks,The Boathouse TeamP.s. we have a new menu and a new chef :)

Property location was in a nice area with a good lookout point. Room was alright size with very big bathroom. However bed was uncomfortable, had some mould around the room and the room had an unpleasant stale smell about it. Overall for the price the hotel was okay, but don’t expect anything fantastic.

A small Mom and Pop shop property with very friendly staff. Stayed here whilst waiting for my ferry to Dublin the following day. Only complaint would be that the cellular reception and WiFi from within the room was virtually nonexistent.

Quite horrific though cheap
This is a place to avoid. I know it’s cheap so expectations are low however the basics of a decent bed, a viable friendly bar area and basic amenities are all missing. The mattress was so old and worn in my tiny tiny single room ( single bed) I was sleepless through the night as I tried to shift to positions where a spring would NOT be sticking into my side. The sheets were clean. But there the nice things ended.

We are new owners of the Boathouse Hotel and we took over the hotel on 21 October 2023. Your review is for a stay prior to us taking over. We agree that the standards here were shocking. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired, we were mortified at what we saw when we took over and I personally blitzed 3 bathrooms which took me nearly 4 hours!! We also agree it hasn't been well-kept and has clearly lacked maintenance. The Boathouse is in a lovely location and was probably once a great hotel. There are signs of effort to upgrade, the new washroom was appreciated, but the mattress was so old it had a ‘ditch’ on one side and needed a mattress protector or something. It would also be great if smokers wouldn’t smoke under the guest bedrooms so we could enjoy the amazing harbour view that is a feature of this “oldie but goody” hotel.

As a social enterprise, funds are a little difficult to free up, especially even more so when the prices of re-carpeting for instance, are as high as they are! The hotel is quiet, clean, has convenient parking and good lunch/dinner options. The sound isolation is quite poor, and the interior could benefit from renovation. Warning: although I booked a room with 'Harbour view', we were told on arrival that view cannot be guaranteed. We did get a room with a view of the harbour in the end, but it was handled with bad grace. If the view is important for you, I'd recommend to contact the hotel after booking and put in a special request.
