Great location amongst the hills around Coniston with beautiful views, where u can start short or long treks from the doorstep. Staff extremely friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay. Good clean showers and bathrooms, reasonable WiFi and good size storage lockers under the beds.
Hostel is located down a bumpy track but it is perfectly driveable as long as you take your time. Also be aware google maps may try to take your car down a footpath so check directions before you leave. If you enjoy hiking and scenery this is definitely a great place to stay.
We had a great time at The Coppermines.... once we found it! Be warned - its a LONG way up a very rough track but worth it. We were quite late but made very welcome by staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Our room had 2 sets of bunk beds and a basin, and the shower was just outside, though we did have to go downstairs for toilets. Beds were comfortable and we were offered breakfast but had our own to use, and the facilities were good and very clean. The views around were amazing... we loved the clear waterfall running down the hillside and the adjacent copper mines very interesting. Note. there was no phone signal (not a problem for us!) but wifi worked fine This was our first YHA stay but won't be our last.
We went into Coniston which is a lovely little place.... don't miss the Fat Flour bakery..fab!
I highly recommend YHA Coniston Coppermines. The hostel manager was very gracious about arranging a late arrival, the room was clean and quiet, and the English breakfast in the morning was an excellent start to a day of walking in the Lake District. The location is very scenic and excellent for walkers - tucked up into the hills, up a dirt track from town, right at the foot of the Old Man of Coniston. I started my walk from the hostel door!
