Amazing building, great spa area and has a lovely bar area too. Staff were friendly enough and helpful enough but you would expect them to at least ask if you have had a nice stay, or even say goodbye after you’ve checked out and paid the bill. On arrival we were also not given any directions to our room and had to ask. Five star hotels should be doing the basics properly in my opinion. Breakfast staff were brilliant but breakfast was underwhelming, unfortunately - why write on your menu fresh orange juice if it isn’t fresh? Again, I’d expect a five star hotel to serve fresh orange juice as opposed to out of a carton. On the whole, a great stay and I would return, but they could very easily make this hotel better.

It is a lovely hotel and the spa facilities are very good. It was a really nice treat. I'd only stay here if you are interested in using the spa, otherwise you might find a cheaper hotel is better.

I was there for a wedding party and cant fault anything on the day. I think breakfast was good but things were running out and taking ages to be replenished and i had about finished before my coffee arrived.

It’s a lovely hotel for the area but it’s not a 5*. Rooms are lovely. Common areas are bland and don’t have any ambience. Spa although lovely from the point of view of it being a spa town, lacked that edge you get from 5*. Treatment rooms were uninspiring and cold, steam room really smelt and was not hot at all, therapist surly, didn’t introduce herself. Outside pool lovely and saves it. Breakfast plentiful. Didn’t eat there but Buxton Brewery have some Amazing venues behind the hotel. Amazing for Buxton they renovated The Cresent to the tune of £70m but sadly it just misses a trick on surly service and interiors.

Confirm bed sizes before booking & shy staff.
Generally a wonderful stay, though not as good as last time based on these two points: On the Hotel.com website, it says that the superior attic rooms come with a King Bed, though they are actually all double. None of the staff will greet you (except for the concierges), unless you greet them first, which we found unwelcoming. Heads are lowered and eye contact avoided.

Absolutely loved this hotel and spa. Stunning renovations. Huge room with period furniture, tasteful modern additions. Spa is one of the best I have ever been to. Only minor criticisms: would’ve benefitted from a floor plan or map of the hotel and spa: a brochure or web bio of the history and renovation would be a nice addition.

Great hotel but need to train their staff
Lovely hotel in a lovely old building. The hotel is let down by poor service in the bar and breakfast -really slow and seemingly untrained. The hotel is very expensive - not worth the money in my opinion

I was made to feel very welcome, the valet parking attendants were extremely polite and helpful. The receptionists were happy to help with my many enquiries and the bar staff were very friendly.. my only slight negative was not enough signs around the hotel to guide you, especially to spa and spa staff didn’t seem to interested in helping me. The pools were amazing. Would definitely return

Best spa hotel we’ve been to.
Amazing place to stay in. We stayed in a classic room which was a very big space and the staff were lovely. Spa is amazing, one of if not the best spa we’ve been to. Very relaxing and all the pools, saunas and steam rooms are brilliant. Highly recommend.
