What a gem of a spot. Step out the door and you are in the heart of old Bergamo. The small hotel rests in an old structure dating back hundreds of years, so one should not expect "luxury" but a sweet experience in a historical location.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Il Sole Bergamo. All of the staff really went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. The location is perfect and the view from the terrace amazing.

Stayed here bed and breakfast in a double room with small balcony on 24 March 2024 for 3 nights. What an absolute gem of a place. Perfect position in the old town. Right in the centre. Immaculate restaurant/bar area/ breakfast room. Beautiful fresh food and The staff are the nicest Ive ever known. The rooms are very clean,warm and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Coffee was amazing. Step straight out of the hotel into the main square. Perfect. Book it you wont regret it.

Great location in the old town with good food options . Standard room was small but had everything you’d need for s short stay and location was superb so this made up for it. Free water a lovely touch. Had a great stay.

Nice property, staff was very accommodating and friendly. We got a room with a double bed and a single bed and the room was spacious. If you drive you have to park in a parking garage a couple blocks a way. Call the hotel before hand and they can make a reservation in the parking garage for you. You will need to pay the parking garage 25€ a day. However you can stop at the hotel first and drop off your baggage and then go park. The hotel is right in the center and you’re able to walk around and see the sights of Bergamo. Lovely

A lovely little hotel with genuinely friendly and helpful staff. We dined in the hotel on the first night of our stay and had a fabulous meal. Special mention must be made of the superb homemade casoncelli which is the local pasta. I would highly recommend this place and the small beautiful city of Bergamo for a 2 or 3 day stay.

I enjoyed my stay!
I am a 73 yr old traveling solo and had a room on the top floor during a hideous heat wave. Surprisingly, neither the steps nor the heat was really bothersome. There was a ceiling fan and a desk fan, so wasn't bad. Staff very friendly especially after I arrived late at night. Breakfast was good and location terrific. I'll stay again.

Il Sole…bella!
Boutique type hotel, with a beautiful bar area, restaurant, with a garden area and upstairs terrace ( gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains of Bergamo)…. Rooms are very simple and clean ( our room had a ceiling fan and window, with shutters, which we opened….not sure if rooms have AC….ours did not, but it was very comfortable with window and fan…very clean ( thank to the cleaning staff!)…. The staff was remarkable, especially Paolo and Piolo…and the super bartender, whose name we neglected to get…. Absolutely fabulous hospitality, great location ( right on the Piazza Vecchio) in Bergamo Alta…great pizza and Aperol spritzes! We would definitely stay again and hope to in the not-too-distant future….

The room had no air conditioner. However, it had a ceiling fan that made a big difference. The facility was clean but the bathroom was infested with tiny ants. The breakfast was very nice and the staff was very responsive.

Excellent location in the old town. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The staff are very friendly and clearly value their guests. Breakfast was good and the hotel is part of a very nice bar and restaurant. We have stayed in many Italian hotels where you expect to hear noise from the street and scooters until well into the night. However Il Sole is very peaceful and tranquil despite its central position in Citta Alta. We would highly recommend staying here if you are planning a trip to Bergamo.

Hotel closed upon arrival with no communication
When we arrived in Bergamo mid afternoon we found the hotel to be closed. There was a sign on the wall outside saying the hotel is definitely open and showed a map and phone # where to go. No one answered the bell or phone and after 45 minutes in the rain we walked to a nearby hotel who showed us to our room. We received no notification. The hotel itself was deserted with no access to any facilities (restaurant, terrace, etc). Disappointing. Hotel shower extremely small and difficult to use.

Very central location and good value. Staff are very friendly. Room was pleasant and decent size, but a few drawbacks: no elevator, beds are narrow and not very comfortable, shower hot water was variable, windows have thin curtains which let in the light at dawn. Good breakfast, but best to avoid the tired restaurant at night. Generally a good option if staying in the old city.

A Perfect Stay!
We were so very pleasantly surprised at how lovely the room was. We had a beautiful view over the red rooftops seeing all the way to the valley bellow. The room and the rest of the hotel was well decorated and exceptionally clean. Staff met us with an honest smile and were so very helpful along the way.

Amazing stay! Right in the old square! We were unable to stay for breakfast because of an early flight and we’re given breakfast to go which was overwhelming consisting of biscotti, fresh grapes, sandwiches! Amazing stay over all!

The restaurant food was very good however, the waiter was surly and unpleasant. The rooms are very noisy. A window in one of the rooms down the hall apparently wouldn't close and for at least an hour, someone was banging on it. Staff talking in hall reverberated, rolling suitcases, dropping and jangling keys sound like they're happening in your room. Carpets/rugs would help.

A real gem in the centre of the citta alta . It felt like a home from home. Staff so welcoming and couldn't do enough to make our stay wonderful. Highly recommend

It was in a fabulous location. We were surrounded by the charming chimes of magnificent Church bells and the welcoming management and staff who were exceptionally warm and helpful. Our only issue was the lack of a mattress topper on our joined single beds which the owner assured us was an unusual error. We will be unreservedly recommending this hotel to our family and friends.

Bellissimo Bergamo
Lovely breakfast, Paulo accommodated us for an early flight, very kind. Restaurant menu looked very good, we did not eat there , but would if returning. Rooms spacious and airy, comfortable beds and bedding. Welcoming and very cosy.

We absolutely loved our stay at Il Sole. This is not a Hilton or a Marriott, I travel frequently and you can get those hotels in any big city. These are people who treat you like family. It’s a small, family run hotel and restaurant who are almost welcoming you into their house. The last day there we had a very early (2:30 am!) flight out and when I stopped by the desk that evening to ask about how we check out in the middle of the night, the lovely young lady who had also checked us in said, oh, I’ve been waiting for you. Not only did she let me know how to get out in the middle of the night, she had packed to go breakfast for each of the three rooms in our party! Good luck finding that level of service at any big chain. Also, this sounds small but the shower water pressure is like a fire hydrant which feels great if you’ve been out all day walking like we did. They were so accommodating, I must have sent 25 emails asking questions and they never blinked. And, they also put up with my entry level Italian that I’ve been learning. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Bergamo is a lovely city in Citta Alta. You need to make sure you know you are staying sort of up on a hill and to get down you need the bus as cars, taxis, Ubers are limited. But with help we figured it out all and become pros at Bus #1 into town each morning and then the Bergamo train station. Also if you stay here we did the Bergamo Free Walking Tour with Matteo which was awesome! We will be back Il Sole!

Great hotel in Citta Alta
One Night stay before a business trip to introduce colleagues to Bergamo. Lovely hotel in Citya Alta which is a wonderful place. Old building with lots of history. Good continental Breakfast.

Staff was kind, accommodating (we were able to store our luggage outside of check-in and check-out times) and the location was perfect for exploring the Città Alta. The room (small for US standards, but pretty standard for EU) was clean and had everything we needed. The only thing we'd have welcomed just because it was a hot August day was airconditioning to help cool the room down, though the fans provided helped. The included breakfast was generous and super tasty with breads, toppings, fresh fruit and delicious hot drinks (my son had a hot chocolate that he says was the best he's ever tasted!).

Very comfortable great location
Brilliant location. Very comfortable bed. Bathroom a bit lacking in space and room small. Only booked for one night so perfect for that but wouldn’t be so keen for longer.
