What you can expect
Step beyond the typical tourist experience and discover the real rhythm of Santo Domingo.
Dominican for a Day is an immersive cultural experience designed for travelers who want to see, feel, and understand everyday life beyond resorts and beaches.
The historical part of the tour begins at Las Ruinas de San Francisco, on a historical and architectural journey that begins in 1492 with the arrival of the Spanish to the American continent, and ends in front of the Puerta del Conde, next to the statue of Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó, in the historical context of the April Revolution of 1965.
We will take a tour of each important part of the history of the first city in America. The architecture, the invasions, the devastations, the independence and the cultural, social and political growth of the island.
This part of the tour lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Your guide is a local artist and historian who grew up in the neighborhood and knows its history deeply—feel free to ask anything about the culture, the stories, or the real life behind the streets.
After that, we move to the dynamic commercial energy of Avenida Duarte, where Dominicans shop for tools, clothing, and everyday essentials. This is not a curated market—it’s real, raw, and full of life. There you can also visit Chinatown.
It continues in a vibrant local neighborhood, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Dominican breakfast and observe the authentic morning routine of the city. This is a safe, guided experience, carefully designed to give you a genuine perspective while ensuring your comfort at all times.
From there, you’ll ride the iconic Teleférico de Santo Domingo, crossing the Ozama River with panoramic views that connect different sides of the city—just like locals do every day.
After that, you're going to explore the underground world with the fantastic vibes and magic if Los 3 Ojos Caves.
To complete the experience, you’ll enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches near Santo Domingo: Juan Dolio. There you'll have lunch and the opportunity to rest, swim and enjoy the freedom of a magical environment.
After the beach you can call it a day or you can opt to continue having fun with an extra night activity. Whether is karaoke time or dance time, fun is 100% assured.
This tour is not about luxury—it’s about connection, culture, and reality. The Dominican Republic as it truly is.
Our tour guide: Gaudy Mercy, is a local artist, well-known in the world of Hip Hop music and culture.
Being a historian for over 15 years, she finds a great passion in sharing her knowledge on this tour, while also learning about other cultures. Also taking you to get to know her own neighborhood where she grew up.
