What you can expect

Begin your day with a pickup from your hotel in Stone Town or nearby. Head to Mbweni Ruins & Gardens for check-in and registration. Board a boat and set off on a 30-40 minute ride to Chumbe Island.

Upon arrival, meet your guide for an orientation. Then, dive into a snorkeling session over one of East Africa’s most diverse shallow coral reefs. Swim from the beach or boat, and keep an eye out for fish and maybe even turtles.

Next, enjoy a freshly-cooked lunch on the island. Afterward, relax, freshen up, or take a stroll along the beach.

In the afternoon, embark on a guided walk through the forest or intertidal areas, depending on the tide. Visit the historic lighthouse and education center.

Spend some free time relaxing on the private beach, swimming, or exploring more of the island. Finally, prepare for departure and take the boat back to Mbweni Ruins, before being transferred back to your hotel.
