Experience Zagreb With a Local: From History & Architecture to Coffee Culture

My goal is to show you Zagreb not only through its history and architecture, but through the eyes of someone who lives here. My background in sociology shapes the way I see the city — as a living network of people, stories, and spaces that all tell us something about how we live together.

Tour plan:
Start your walk in the Upper Town (Gornji Grad), where Zagreb’s story began. Stroll its cobbled streets, hear tales of old city rivalries, and discover landmarks like St. Mark’s Church, Stone Gate, and Lotrščak Tower — where the cannon still marks noon every day.

Then, do as locals do: pause for coffee.
This isn’t just a drink here — it’s a social ritual. Sit at a café, chat, and feel how life in Zagreb slows down over a cup of espresso.

Continue into the elegant Lower Town (Donji Grad), a showcase of 19th-century parks, squares, and grand architecture. See where Austro-Hungarian style meets modern city life, from Zrinjevac Park to the Croatian National Theatre and the Art Pavilion.

You’ll also step into the Grič Tunnel, an underground passage with stories from wartime to today’s creative scene.

By the end, you’ll understand Zagreb not just through its landmarks — but through its rhythm, its people, and the small everyday moments that make it unique.

☕WHY COFFEE ☕ break ?
— an essential part of life in Zagreb. We’ll step off the main route to find a cozy local café, where you can ask questions, chat about anything, or simply unwind and enjoy the moment. Here, coffee isn’t just a drink; it’s a way to slow down, connect, and observe everyday life. Sometimes it leads to great conversations, aaaand sometimes it’s just a perfect pause to recharge. In good tradition, coffee is on me!
