Borobudur Temple*
Borobudur Temple is the world’s largest Buddhist monument, built in the 9th century during the Sailendra Dynasty. Located in Magelang, Central Java, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is shaped like a giant mandala with 9 stacked platforms. It features 2,672 detailed relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The top level has 72 openwork stupas surrounding one large central dome. Visitors can walk through the temple’s three levels symbolizing the Buddhist cosmology: Kamadhatu - world of desire, Rupadhatu - world of forms, and Arupadhatu - formless world. It is most famous for its sunrise view with Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu in the background.
