Discover the Xi'an Museum, a distinguished national first-grade museum in the heart of Xi'an, a city that served as the capital for 13 dynasties. Opened to the public on May 18, 2007, the museum offers a unique blend of history and architecture, integrating a modern exhibition hall, an ancient temple site, a world cultural heritage pagoda, and a public park into a single, harmonious complex.

The museum's design philosophy is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese cosmology, embodying the concept of a “round heaven and a square earth.” This architectural masterpiece complements the serene atmosphere of its surroundings, which include the ancient Jianfu Temple and the iconic Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The pagoda, originally built between 707 and 710 AD during the Tang Dynasty, stands at 43.4 meters tall. It was constructed to house Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by the revered monk Yijing and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014 as part of the “Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor.”

Inside the museum, explore a collection of over 110,000 cultural relics, with more than 10,000 classified as precious, third-tier items or above. The permanent exhibition is dedicated to the theme of “Ancient Capital Xi'an,” and it chronologically showcases the city's glorious history, from the Zhou and Qin dynasties through to the Han and Tang periods. Key displays include a detailed wooden model of Tang Dynasty Chang'an, intricate bronze ware such as the Western Zhou “Yongyu” food vessel, a Qin Dynasty jade cup with elegant cloud patterns, and vivid Tang Dynasty tri-color glazed pottery figurines. The museum also features specialized halls for Buddhist stone statues and a collection of ancient jade artifacts, seals, and calligraphy, offering a comprehensive and captivating journey through the millennia-long legacy of this ancient capital.
