The Great Caucasus Range is a continuous mountain range stretching for more than 1100 km from the northwest to the southeast from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea. The Caucasus Range divides the Caucasus into two parts: the North Caucasus and the South Caucasus. The total length of the Caucasus Range in Georgia is 700 km.

Bodbe has endured several serious attacks from outside invaders over the centuries. During the Soviet Union, the monastery was closed, and its building was used as a hospital for several decades. At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, a large-scale restoration of the monastery complex was carried out. Today the monastery is female, the entrance is open all year round.
