What you can expect

We start the walk at the main gate of the Tijuca National Park, located in Alto da Boa Vista. The first attraction is the largest waterfall in the Tijuca forest, Cascatinha Taunay, which enchants visitors with its 35m waterfall. We walk part of the way up along the Bench Trail and part along the Cascatinha Road, past the Mayrink Chapel, the Painters' Corner, to the National Park Museum, where we will learn a little more about the history of the forest, its fauna and flora.

We continue along the trail, past the Tai Chi Chuan Corner, towards Cachoeira das Almas, where we will take a break to bathe and contemplate. Going a little further up, we'll arrive at “A Floresta” Restaurant, the ruins of a colonial mansion that was the site of a large coffee plantation in the 18th century, and was of great historical importance during the reforestation of the Tijuca Forest.

We continue our walk along the Major Archer Road to the Almirante Viewpoint, a sensational viewpoint where we can see the famous Pedra da Gávea and part of other sections of the Tijuca National Park.

If the group is up for it, we'll walk along the Grutas (Caves) trail, a special place with different rock formations, where you can enter the Gruta Archer and the Gruta do Morcego.

On the way we'll visit the Baronesa Waterfall, Diamantina Waterfall and Gabriela Waterfall, as well as the Os Esquilos Restaurant, a former residence of the royal family, with colonial architecture, an antique shop with antique decoration, which has been home to the restaurant since 1945, and is very popular for parties and events.

This trail is an activity for people of all ages and physical endurance, suitable for the whole family, with lots of stories and natural beauty. Contemplate nature and enjoy!
