What you can expect

Step into the warm atmosphere of a traditional Polish home kitchen in Warsaw and discover the magic of sourdough baking. This hands-on workshop begins with a cozy welcome where we introduce ourselves and share stories. You’ll also review a short safety & participation form.

Before we start mixing, we’ll go over the short “Know-how in a nutshell” session — a simple and fun introduction to what bread really is. You’ll learn how flour, water, salt, and sourdough starter work together to create flavor, texture, and rise. I’ll show you different types of flour (white vs wholemeal), explain why gluten matters, and demonstrate how temperature and hydration affect fermentation. You’ll also get to see and smell a real sourdough starter — the living heart of every loaf. This short theory part helps you understand the “why” behind every step, so once we move on to kneading and shaping, everything will make perfect sense.

Then, it's time to get your hands in the dough! You'll learn how to mix, shape, and score your own loaf of sourdough bread using tried-and-true techniques passed down through generations. I’ll guide you step by step, and you’ll be able to take your bread home after baking it (we can bake up to 4 loaves for the entire group!).

While the dough bakes, sit down at the table to taste a spread of real Polish delicacies: sausages, cheeses, pickles, butter, and more — all homemade or locally sourced. It’s a cozy and authentic tasting experience that many guests say is their favorite part of the workshop!

Finally, we’ll wrap up with some photos and a diploma to remember your experience. You’ll leave not only with your bread but also the skills and confidence to bake it at home.

The activity takes place in my flat in a green, post-war district of Wola in Warsaw, about 25 minutes from the city center by public transport. It’s easy to reach by tram, bus, metro, or taxi, and detailed directions will be provided after booking. All tools, ingredients, and food are provided — just bring your curiosity and an appetite!
