What you can expect

Georges Bizet's masterpiece in the open air in the opera arena at Heumarkt.
The Vienna Opera Summer is a cultural open-air spectacle that transforms Vienna's Heumarkt into a unique open-air opera arena. From July 1 to 18, 2026, international opera stars, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Choir will give a total of 12 performances on an open-air stage created by Manfred Waba. Presented by artistic director & conductor Joji Hattori, under the artistic direction of Dominik am Zehnhof-Söns.

A celebration of the arts at the Wiener Opernsommer 2026
After last year's spectacular success, the Wiener Opernsommer is entering its third round and once again promises an incomparable open-air experience. From July 1 to 18, 2026, Vienna's Heumarkt will be transformed into a breathtaking opera arena where the world-famous opera “Carmen” will be performed under the artistic direction of Joji Hattori. Twelve exclusive performances make the event one of the cultural highlights of the summer.

The historic Vienna Heumarkt will become an open-air opera arena and promises to captivate visitors. With the employment of around 100 artists annually, including both emerging talents and established names in the opera world, the festival offers a unique platform for creative development.

The historic and listed backdrop of the Vienna Musikverein not only provides a visually stunning setting for the performances, but also symbolizes the fusion of historical heritage and contemporary art.

This magnificent place, which once served as a summer residence, enriches the festival experience with a dimension of sublime beauty and historical depth.
