Discover the Theater an der Wien from a new perspective on an exclusive backstage tour. Learn about the fascinating history of this venerable theatre, from its founding in 1801 by Mozart’s librettist Emanuel Schikaneder to its modern-day status as a leading opera house.

Take in the spectacular auditorium, go backstage, and ascend to the new foyer “Heaven,” including a balcony with a perfect view over Naschmarkt. Hear exciting details about artistic highlights of the last 200 years and the current program.

Built in 1801 in the spirit of Mozart, the Theater an der Wien has seen many historic world premieres, including Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio. Reopened in 2006 as “the new opera house” of the City of Vienna, it has been setting new artistic standards ever since.
