Update 09.09.2026: From September 15 to October 15, the tour will follow an alternative route due to the seasonal closure of our usual mountain hut. You can still expect a beautiful Alpine experience with spectacular mountain views, a scenic lake and an overnight stay at a traditional mountain hut with amazing views and, with a little luck, a beautiful sunset. The alternative route is physically more challenging, but not technically more difficult or dangerous than the regular itinerary. The first day is expected to involve approximately 10 km and 1,450 m of elevation gain, followed by around 13 km on the second day, mostly downhill on a different trail. We will hike at a relaxed pace, take breaks along the way and adjust the pace to the group. A good level of fitness is therefore recommended. If you have any questions about the route or whether the tour is suitable for you, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Escape Vienna and embark on a guided 2-day hiking tour, spending the night in an authentic hut in the Hochschwab area, a stunning mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps of Austria. Begin your adventure with a comfortable car/van ride from Vienna to the trailhead.
May - October: Hike through forests and rocky trails, taking in breathtaking views of the Alps and with a little bit of luck spot some capricorns. Climb about 1300 meters up and down on a 18-kilometer route, with breaks along the way. Those who do not want to continue to the very top, can relax at the hut (800m up and down, 14km route).
November - March: Hike through snowy forests and trails, taking in breathtaking views of the Alps and with a little bit of luck spot some capricorns. Climb about 800 meters up and down on a 10-15-kilometer route, with breaks along the way. Those who do not want to continue to the very top, can relax at the hut (700m up and down, 10km route).
Stop for lunch (at your own expense) and a night including breakfast at a beautiful and safe mountain hut (included). As usual on mountain huts the rooms as well as the bathroom may be shared with other guests.
Return to Vienna the next day in the late afternoon/evening, refreshed and inspired by your alpine adventure.
Hiking shoes can be rented for free. Just let me know, if you need any, so we can find the right shoe sizes. But with any shoes, to guarantee the best comfort, I highly recommend bringing your own hiking shoes.
Please note: You can also join on your own. The hike requires across all customers overall at least two booked spots to take place.
