Embark on a full-day whale and bird safari from the remote fishing village of Stø in Vesterålen. Your journey begins with a scenic cruise into the open Norwegian Sea as you head toward the whale feeding grounds near the Bleik Canyon, one of the richest marine areas in the region.
To increase the chances of sightings, the crew works closely with local fishermen and spotters, as well as Arctic Whale Tours’ own vessel in Andenes, Alba, which uses hydrophone technology to detect whales underwater. This coordinated approach helps locate wildlife more efficiently.
During the search, your onboard marine expert guide will share insights about whale behavior, feeding patterns, and the Arctic marine ecosystem, turning the waiting time into an engaging and educational experience. Once whales are found, you may observe species such as sperm whales, orcas, pilot whales, minke whales, and dolphins in their natural habitat.
After the whale encounters, relax on the return journey with hot coffee and warm soup served onboard. Before arriving back in Stø, the boat passes by Anda Island, where you can spot puffins, seals, and a variety of seabirds in a protected natural reserve.
The tour takes place on a comfortable catamaran with a heated indoor saloon and spacious outdoor decks, offering excellent views throughout the 6–8 hour experience. With fewer crowds and a remote setting, Stø offers a more authentic Arctic wildlife adventure.
If no whales are seen, you’ll receive a Whale Pass, allowing you to rebook free of charge on the next available departure.
