Get ready to live a unique food and wine experience at Castrum Wine Relais. At the entrance of Valpolicella Classica, on the top of the highest hill of the village of Castelrotto, is perched Castrum Rotari, a military stronghold built in the seventh century that over the centuries housed important people who marked the history of Valpolicella. In 1177 King Frederick the II of Swabia, known as The Redbeard, issued a decree by which he changed the area's name from Val di Veriago and Pruviniano to Valpolicella.
Casa Fraccaroli, one of the oldest mansions in the area, built in 1790 and located in Piazza di Castelrotto consists of a Venetian Villa with an old cellar in the basement, a rustic countryhouse, a large olive grove, and a boutique winery - Azienda Agricola Borghetti - that produces the classic wines of Valpolicella. A villa passed from generation to generation, which has always remained in the family, opens its doors for you to enjoy a daytime tour of the cellar and barrel room, to learn about the evolution and winemaking processes used by Borghetti Giampiero, the current owner of the entire structure.
Castrum Wine Relais and Borghetti Giampiero Winery offer an experience, a concept, a journey through wines, art, architecture, family history, and centuries-old traditions. We are a winery with catering; our Wine Bistro is open all year round, every day, offering local dishes. It is the winner in Italy of the 2025 Wine Tasting & Food Experience title in the international competition Great Wine Capitals of the World.
