We’re jealous of you already, because the food scene in Tokyo is, how do we say this - staggering. You will follow one of our friendly hosts (whilst wearing your stretchiest trousers) around the neighborhoods of Tokyo best known for their fresh produce markets, street food, ramen shops and sushi bars. Here you can sip cocktails forty stories up in the air, slurp down ramen noodles - it’s good manners, promise - nibble snacks at a six-seater bar or drink sake in historic yokocho (alleyways). You could spend your life on the never-ending search for that perfect bowl of ramen, but even with just a few hours your host can’t wait to share a sliver of what’s good with you. Bring an open mind, and be prepared to eat everything from convenience store fried chicken to sushi from a department store basement (local hack: this is actually where you can find some of the city’s best sushi), unusual ramen inside a train stations to yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) at impossibly small izakaya bars. What are you waiting for, all that food isn’t going to eat itself.
Within 24 hours after booking you'll receive a short questionnaire about your personality and interests. Based on your responses, you'll be assigned a like-minded host. Your host will communicate with you directly to suggest an itinerary to help you discover what makes the city unique. You will also agree on a meeting time and place. Your itinerary is flexible, so during the experience, you can always change your mind about what you want to do.
Immerse yourself in the local food culture with a Local Host who will select 6-8 of their favourite foods to try out based on your food preferences and while you're at it, discover markets, stores, street food and local eateries together. Spend time getting to know your Local Host, chat about your favourite foods and get some insider recommendations for the best local places to eat for the rest of your trip.
