Escape the noise of everyday life and discover the Tunisian Sahara on an immersive 3-day adventure combining history, Berber culture, a wild desert bivouac, and an authentic Sahara camp experience.
Day 1: El Jem – Matmata – Wild Sahara Bivouac
Start early with pickup from your hotel in Tunis, Hammamet, Nabeul, or Sousse.
Travel south to El Jem and visit its spectacular Roman Amphitheater, one of the best-preserved in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Continue to Matmata, famous for its traditional troglodyte houses carved into the earth. Visit a local underground dwelling and discover the unique Berber architecture of southern Tunisia. Enjoy a traditional lunch before continuing toward the Sahara.
Arrive in Sabria, at the gateway to the Grand Erg Oriental. Meet your local nomadic guide and prepare for your journey into the dunes. Dromedaries help carry the bivouac equipment as you leave the roads behind and walk into the vast Sahara.
Reach your bivouac around sunset. Enjoy the silence of the desert, discover traditional sand-bread preparation, and share a dinner cooked over a wood fire.
Spend the evening around the campfire and admire a spectacular star-filled sky, far from city lights.
Overnight in a wild desert bivouac, under a nomadic tent or beneath the stars.
Day 2: Bivouac – Camp Dunes Insolites
Wake up surrounded by dunes and enjoy breakfast in the desert.
Return gradually to Camp Dunes Insolites, where you can take a shower, relax, and enjoy lunch.
Spend the afternoon at your own pace. Optional activities include camel riding, quad biking, and a 4x4 desert excursion. Sandboarding is also available.
In the late afternoon, walk to the dunes and admire another beautiful Sahara sunset.
Return to the camp for a complete traditional evening with folklore entertainment, an equestrian performance, a demonstration of Mella bread baked beneath the sand, a traditional dinner, and a campfire under the stars.
Overnight in an authentic desert tent at Camp Dunes Insolites.
Day 3: Chott El Jerid – Chebika – Tamerza – Return
After breakfast, leave the camp and cross Chott El Jerid, Tunisia's famous salt lake. Stop to admire its vast landscapes, salt formations, and unique reflections.
Continue to Chebika, a spectacular mountain oasis with palm groves, natural springs, rocky cliffs, and panoramic desert views.
Visit Tamerza, known for its waterfalls, canyons, palm groves, and abandoned old village.
Enjoy lunch in the oasis region before starting the journey back north.
Return to your hotel in Tunis, Hammamet, Nabeul, or Sousse in the evening.
This experience is ideal for travelers seeking more than a classic Sahara tour: one night of true wild-desert immersion followed by the traditions and comfort of an authentic desert camp.
