Overview

  • We leave the hustle of Bucharest behind and, after a pleasant drive, we take a relaxing coffee and snack break in historic Curtea de Argeș.
    As we travel along the winding mountain road, we’ll stop to admire the dramatic ruins of Poenari Citadel perched high on the cliffs above. We do not vist this castle. Next, we cross the impressive Vidraru Dam, where breathtaking views of the emerald lake unfold right before your eyes. From here, our path winds up through the raw, wild beauty of Făgăraș National Park all the way to Hotel Capra. Surrounded by dramatic peaks at high altitude, we’ll stop for a delicious local lunch, enjoy some snow fun and sledding, and take a short, refreshing hike through the winter wonderland. On our journey back, we’ll pause for photo stops along the way to capture the magical scenery. To crown the day, we’ll visit the magnificent Curtea de Argeș Cathedral—the final resting place of Romania’s royal family—before making our comfortable way back to central Bucharest.

    • Drive the stunning Transfăgărășan Top Gear Road, stop near Poenari Fortress - the real Dracula Castle! Begin your adventure with Poenari Fortress, once a stronghold of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula). We will not enter in to the fortress, we see it from exterior. We stop at the imposing Vidraru Dam, a marvel of engineering, where you can take in the stunning views of the reservoir and surrounding peaks. We admire the goat waterfall and we can taste/buy some local products (cheeses, pastrama, jams, alcoholic beverages, etc.). The destination is the Balea glacial lake - the place of view on the winding road (open only fron June to October), at over 2000 meters altitude, where we have lunch and free time for hiking and pictures. This unique tour blends cultural discovery and scenic beauty, offering an unforgettable day.
    • In Romania, eating in the van is generally considered a sign of disrespect and can even be seen as offensive. We highly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping the car clean. Please feel free to enjoy your food or snacks entirely outside the vehicle during stops. !!!

    • Bear sightings are most common between May and September along roads, streets, and hiking trails. Starting in October, as mountain temperatures drop below 0°C (during the night), bears enter their dens for hibernation, so encounters on the streets stop.
