Visit of the Museum of “Infreschi” and the Prehistoric Cave of Cala in MARINA DI CAMEROTA.

Then we leave towards LENTISCOSA to discover its historic center with a stop and tasting at the Locanda del Curato. Also in Lentiscosa stop and visit a panoramic terrace, called “Spodicella”.

Continuing we will head towards SAN GIOVANNI A PIRO where we will admire the amazing panorama of the “Pianoro di Ciolandrea”. Located at over 600 meters high and overlooking the sea almost sheer, it offers unparalleled views.

The last stop of the tour, before returning to Marina di Camerota, is the port of SCARIO, a tourist landing place located along the Gulf of Policastro, in the homonymous hamlet of the municipality of San Giovanni a Piro.

Grotta Preistorica della Cala

The Cave of Cala is the first cave to open a few meters from the sea. Composed of a cave ante and a cave back, connected by a bottleneck. The shape of this cave resembles an hourglass. Pebbles and bone weapons testify to the presence of our Neanderthal ancestors who inhabited the cave in the Middle Paleolithic. Later bequeathed to Homo Sapiens, the cave experienced a more systematic use. Hunting was a living at that time; for this reason various stone tools have been found, such as scratches and spine tips, faunal remains, marine shells used as ornaments, bone artifacts and hearths. Traces found on the site allow us to mentally reconstruct lifestyles, far from us 20,000 and 40,000 years ago.

In addition, walking through the alleys of Lentiscosa, you can also admire the imposing walls of noble palaces, which testify to the history and tradition of this ancient village. Here, every corner is a discovery, every alley a surprise.
Locanda Del Curato

Tasting of typical Cilento and especially lentiscosani products at the Locanda del Curato, an ancient residence restored keeping alive the Classic charm. Lentiscosa offers different culinary opportunities for visitors. The stuffed eggplant alla Cilento, also called "mulignane 'mbuttunat", is a typical dish of Cilento cuisine, characterized by authentic and genuine flavors. But the typical product of Lentiscosa is maracuoccio, a rare legume, ancient and different from the others, since 2016 also Slow Food Presidium. Marracucciata is one of the most representative dishes of Cilento cuisine, an ancient dish that has been able to withstand time. It is prepared with maracuoccio flour, a rare and ancient legume that is grown only in a restricted area around Lentiscosa. The flour is mixed with wheat flour, and then cooked in salt water. Once cooked, the flour is served with golden bread croutons in a pan with oil, onion, garlic and chilli.
Via Spodicella
