Experience Northern Norway in a truly authentic way—off the beaten path and close to nature. On The Tromsø Foraging Tour, we take you into the Arctic landscape surrounding Tromsø to explore nature’s own pantry.
Over the course of 4–5 hours, you’ll learn how people in this region have lived off the land for generations—and how we still rely on nature today as a source of food. Together, we venture into forests and open terrain to forage for whatever is in season. Depending on the time of year, this may include cloudberries, blueberries, lingonberries, wild strawberries, crowberries, or herbs and edible plants. We may also find mushrooms such as chanterelles, porcini, and other local varieties.
Nature sets the terms. Seasonal changes and weather conditions mean we can never guarantee exactly what we will find—but we always find something.
Along the way, you’ll also be introduced to the Norwegian concept of “going on slang”—a playful and informal tradition connected to gathering food from nature.
The highlight of the tour is gathering around the fire to prepare and share a meal together. Whenever possible, we cook using ingredients we have foraged ourselves, creating a simple yet memorable Arctic dining experience.
The tour includes transport from Tromsø, a knowledgeable guide, and all necessary foraging equipment. All you need to bring is curiosity—and an appetite.
This is a fun, unique, and immersive way to experience Northern Norway—through its landscapes, traditions, and flavors.
