It was built on the sites of Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill, based on the scenery of West Lake in Hangzhou, and drawing on some design techniques and artistic conceptions of Jiangnan gardens. It is a large natural landscape garden. It is the most well-preserved royal Summer Palace garden and is known as the Royal Garden Museum.
