What you can expect

Explore the highlights of Funchal on a guided walking tour through its most iconic landmarks, ending with an authentic Poncha-making experience.

Begin your journey at Praça do Colombo, a historic square connected to Christopher Columbus and Madeira’s early history. From here, continue to the Sé Cathedral of Funchal, a 15th-century masterpiece known for its intricate wooden ceiling and cultural significance.

Stroll through the beautiful Municipal Garden, a peaceful green space in the city centre, before heading along to Rua da Carreira, one of Funchal’s oldest streets, lined with traditional architecture and local shops.

Arrive at Praça do Município, where the elegant Town Hall and striking Portuguese pavement offer a perfect photo opportunity. Then visit the Igreja do Colégio de São João Evangelista, popularly known as the College Church, renowned for its richly decorated Baroque interior.

The tour continues into Funchal’s Old Town (Zona Velha), a vibrant and historic area famous for its painted doors, charming streets and lively atmosphere.

Poncha Workshop Experience
During your tour experience a hands-on Poncha workshop, where you will learn to prepare Madeira’s most traditional drink using local sugar cane rum, honey and fresh lemon juice, served with a local cheese and charcuterie board. Enjoy tasting your creation while discovering the cultural importance of this iconic beverage.
