Embark on a full-day adventure through Suicide Gorge, one of the most adventurous things you can do. Imagine going down a beautiful gorge featuring many waterfalls and rock pools, with a few rockslides. The scenery and landscapes are incredible.
Start with an 8-kilometer hike to get to the gorge. Once at the start of the kloof, kit up and take on the 7-meter slide into the first pool. Then, there’s a series of rock jumps which take you downstream, some of which are 14 meters high. The highest jump you’ll be required to do is 5-6 meters high.
Once you complete the kloofing section, complete a loop by hiking out of the gorge and return to the starting point feeling quite exhausted. That feeling of fulfillment once its over is really special, it’s like you can’t believe what you just experienced.
It could easily take 8-9 hours to complete the route. If you’re fit and ready for the challenge, then you’re in for a beautiful day of adrenaline-filled adventure.
The Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers stunning scenery throughout the hike, including sweeping mountain vistas, cascading waterfalls, and an abundance of endemic plant species. Along the way, you’ll encounter wildlife unique to the Cape Floristic Region, adding to the magic of the day.
This is not a casual outing—it’s a life-changing adventure for those who crave excitement and are ready to conquer one of South Africa’s most thrilling trails. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a canyoning enthusiast, the Suicide Gorge Hike promises a day filled with unforgettable moments and stories to tell for a lifetime.
