Starting in Mülenen near Spiez, this challenging summit hike leads to the top of Mount Niesen (2362 m), one of the most recognizable mountains in Switzerland. Rising like a perfect pyramid above Lake Thun, the Niesen offers a rewarding full mountain experience.

The trail begins directly in the village and quickly climbs into dense forest. The ascent is continuous and steep, following numerous switchbacks as we steadily gain elevation. This section feels quiet and immersive, far from busy tourist areas.

As we climb higher, the views begin to open between the trees. Looking back, Lake Thun appears far below, and on clear days the panorama stretches toward Interlaken and the surrounding mountains.

Higher up, the forest gradually gives way to open alpine terrain. Gravel paths and grassy slopes lead toward the distinctive pyramid-shaped summit. This upper section becomes increasingly panoramic as the landscape opens in all directions.

At the summit, we are rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views across the Bernese Oberland, surrounding alpine peaks, and the lakes far below. A mountain restaurant is also located at the top, making it a perfect place to pause before descending.

This is not a standardized tourism activity, but a real private mountain experience. The route remains flexible throughout the day and is thoughtfully adapted to your pace, the conditions, and the overall mountain experience.

The famous Niesen cogwheel railway can also be used for part of the ascent or descent when operating.
