On τhe picturesque fishing village of Kini , by the water is a fountain featuring a mermaid and a fisherman. The mermaid is Panagia Gorgona (which approximately means "Saint Mermaid" or "Virgin Mary the Mermaid"), patroness of fishermen. The sculpture is a tribute to fishermen lost at sea.

On the slope of the green hill of Episkopeio have built their holiday villas the first rulers of Syros, in the 19th century, and since then are considered one of the resorts on the island.
