Certified glacier guide will take you on this fantastic tour on Falljökull glacier which is an outlet glacier from Vatnajökull icecap, the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest glaciers in Europe. This, approximately 3-and-a-half-hour tour, is a great option for those who want to try out a glacier hike and do not prefer a strenuous hike since the level of this tour is rated as ‘easy’.
The hike up takes about 30 minutes and the guide will explain to you all about this glacier, a fascinating river of ice. Glaciers weight cause them to be constantly moving and that is how crevasses and seracs are formed. Sometimes these crevasses can be hiding underneath a thin layer of snow which is very dangerous, and your certified glacier guide will make sure you are walking in safe areas at all times.
You will meet your guide at the Arctic Adventures booking hut in Skaftafell. From the booking office we drive for about 15 minutes to reach Falljökull glacier. After arriving to the location, everyone will strap on their ice crampons to be ready to set foot on the glacier, no worries, the guide will teach you how to properly attach them to your shoes. On this hike it is vital to wear sturdy hiking boots so that the crampons will fit, however if you do not have proper hiking boots it is not a problem since you can rent a pair at our booking office. We will also provide you with other necessary glacier equipment such as helmets and ice axes.
