This medieval stone bridge, built in 1345, is famous for the shops built right along its length. Originally home to stinky butchers, a decree by Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici in 1593 replaced them with goldsmiths and jewelers to improve the decorum of the area. This tradition endures, making the bridge an iconic, glittering landmark on the Arno River.
