What you can expect

  • Explore the vibrant, colorful underwater world of Alaska which is home to sea stars, anemones, sea cucumbers, urchins, octopi, salmon, rockfish, and many other kinds of marine creatures. The waters of Sitka Sound are blessed with offshore currents, waves, and pelagic creatures, creating an incredible underwater world of extreme biodiversity and abundance.

You will meet your guides at the Centennial Hall in downtown Sitka. Your guides will help you don a wetsuit and collect your gear kit. You will drive to Magic Island State Park and walk down to the beach over a gravelly/rocky shore. While everyone is getting their gear on, your guide will give you a safety briefing.

You will swim around the small island, experiencing different marine environments, including eel grass, kelp beds, large tidal pools, and giant kelp forest. Be sure to keep close to your guide so they can point out special creatures to you (and hopefully see our resident octopus!) After snorkeling, you will return to the snorkel shop, change out of your suits, and enjoy hot chocolate, coffee, or tea.

You will be dropped off at the Centennial Hall in downtown Sitka, where you can grab a bite to eat, head out on your next adventure, or catch a complimentary shuttle back to the cruise terminal.
