What you can expect
Visit the Floating Village of Kampong Phluk and the Banteay Srei Temple on a guided tour from Siem Reap. Get an authentic glimpse into rural Cambodian life and admire the intricate carvings of the temple.
Begin your journey with a visit to Kampong Phluk, a traditional floating and stilted village located about 30 km southeast of Siem Reap, on the edge of Tonlé Sap Lake. Admire the tall stilt houses, which rise up to 6–8 meters high to adapt to the dramatic changes in water levels between the dry and rainy seasons.
During the wet season, the area becomes a true floating village, while in the dry season the houses stand high above the ground, revealing the remarkable engineering of local communities. Enjoy a boat journey through flooded mangrove forests, where you can enjoy peaceful scenery and observe local wildlife.
Next, head to Banteay Srei, often called the “Citadel of Women.” Located about 25 km northeast of Siem Reap, this 10th-century Hindu temple is dedicated to the god Shiva and stands out for its small scale but extraordinary artistic detail.
Built in 967 AD from pink sandstone, Banteay Srei is renowned for its intricate carvings, considered among the finest in Khmer art. The temple walls, lintels, and pediments are richly decorated with delicate floral motifs and detailed scenes from Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
