Today, it is a popular area for tourists and locals alike to walk about, shop, and appreciate the architectural history. Next, you'll encounter the famed Peace Hotel, overlooking the Huangpu River. Originally built by Victor Sassoon in 1929, it was the first skyscraper in Asia and home to many festive jazz events prior to the advent of communism. Soon after, you'll reach the Jiangnan Silk Museum to learn and see how the famous fabric is produced. Upon hearing silk history and seeing the craftwork, there is an opportunity to purchase authentic silk goods.
