Small-Group Shore Excursion: Petrohué Falls & Lake District

This tour covers the main iconic stops of the Lake District from Puerto Montt and is designed with cruise guests in mind. With over 20 years in the region, the day is structured to maximize your time ashore.

On our tour, you’ll visit Petrohué Falls inside Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, travel along Lake Llanquihue, stop in the lakeside towns of Puerto Varas and Frutillar, and enjoy views of Osorno, Calbuco, and Puntiagudo volcanoes along the way (weather permitting).

This tour departs directly from the Puerto Montt cruise port, making it a straightforward option for cruise passengers. We understand how tender ports work and how important timing is, so the day is planned around each ship’s schedule. Pickup and return are coordinated to ensure you’re back at the port with time to spare.

How the Day Flows

Scenic Drive through the Lake District
Travel is in a comfortable van through landscapes shaped by glaciers and volcanoes. Driving along Lake Llanquihue, you’ll enjoy changing views of the lake and surrounding countryside, with volcanoes often visible in the distance when weather allows. The small-group format makes it easy to stop for photos and enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.

Petrohué Falls & Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park
You’ll visit Petrohué Falls, one of the region’s most well-known natural landmarks. Inside Chile’s oldest national park, you’ll walk along maintained paths to viewpoints overlooking turquoise water flowing over volcanic rock formations. Free time is included for photos, short walks, or a brief break.

Scenic Stop & Local Snack
We include a scenic stop to enjoy local flavors. Guests are offered a freshly made empanada, paired with local wine and a traditional pisco sour—a relaxed moment to enjoy the surroundings and taste a few regional specialties.

Puerto Varas & Frutillar
From here, we continue to Puerto Varas, where you’ll have time to walk along the waterfront and explore the town. The final stop is Frutillar, set right on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, with time to stroll the promenade, browse shops, or stop for coffee and cake near the Teatro del Lago.

Return to Port

The tour concludes with a comfortable return to the Puerto Montt cruise port, scheduled at least one hour before the final tender. This is a practical, well-paced shore excursion for travelers who want to see the Lake District highlights in one day.
