The 96000 hectare "Big 5" Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park has a long and vibrant history. Being the oldest game reserve in Africa as well as the epicentre of rhino conservation and game capture innovations that have shaped and re-reshaped conservation and wildlife management from the implementation of "Project Rhino" in the 1950's & 1960's. Once the royal hunting grounds of Zulu king Shaka, this "Big 5" park is much part of the local cultural history as are the multitude of wildlife that roam the wilderness areas.
