Step off the beaten path and dive into the soul of Shanghai on this 3-hour immersive food and culture walking tour. We’ll skip the tourist traps and head straight to Hongkou District, where the “Old Shanghai” spirit is still very much alive.
Taste the Morning Commute
Our journey begins at a lively local wet market. This is the city's kitchen, where you’ll taste authentic delicacies. You'll try the savory Jianbing (Chinese crepes), silken Tofu Pudding, and the classic duo of Soy Milk and You-tiao (fried dough sticks). Of course, no Shanghai tour is complete without the iconic Shengjianbao (pan-fried pork buns) and Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), served piping hot just the way locals love them.
Parks and Matchmaking
After breakfast, we’ll walk to Hongkou Park. It’s more than just a green space; it’s a social hub. You’ll witness the “Matchmaking Corner,” (if avalible) where parents “advertise” their children for marriage, and see locals practicing Tai Chi, dancing, or playing instruments.
Architecture and Heritage
Finally, we’ll wander through Shanyin Road to admire the Shikumen (stone-gate) architecture and the unique vibe of local Li-long communities. We’ll conclude our tour at Duolun Road Cultural Celebrity Street, an open-air museum featuring a stunning variety of architectural styles from the early 20th century.
This isn't a route that just checks off sights. It's a narrative. You experience the city's layers. To encourage meaningful and personal interaction, we keep our groups small—no more than 6 people.
